The Village, established in 1986, is a psychiatric residential treatment facility specializing in treating adolescents who have not been successful in other treatment settings. We offer specialized treatment in a highly structured setting for adolescent males and females 13-17 years of age. Our highly trained staff provide services to help severely troubled adolescents overcome behavioral, emotional, mental or psychological problems that have caused problems in family interactions and relationships, school achievement, peer groups and socialization. Our philosophy is to treat the adolescent and family using an integrated plan, providing high quality care and services. Families have the opportunity to participate in the treatment process and learn the skills they need to have a better quality of life. We are committed to providing the youth placed in our care with a therapeutic environment designed to support adolescents in their quest to become functional and productive members of the community and we pride ourselves on our ability to implement Evidence-Based Best Practices. All programs are based on a cognitive behavioral model of treatment within the framework of a pro-social philosophy capitalizing on residents' strengths and exposing the vulnerabilities that lay beneath their rough exterior in an attempt to allow the resident to develop more adaptive coping mechanisms in a safe setting. Our clients are typically admitted with some combination of the following:
- Mood disorders
- Alcohol and/or drug abuse/dependency
- Behavioral disorders
- Character pathologies
- Difficulties in school environments
- Sexual abuse issues
Located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, The Village is minutes from Knoxville, Tennessee. Situated on a campus of woodlands along the Tennessee River, there are separate campuses for male and female adolescents. Each campus has its own SACS-accredited, state-certified private school.
The goal of the The Village program is to provide adolescents with a respect for authority, a sense of self as part of a group or larger community, self-restraint, tolerance for tension and frustration, independence in relation to others and the value of physical work.
The Village is licensed by the State of Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities. In addition, the Village is a member of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP). |
